As the year comes to a close, it’s exciting to reflect on the growth of the electric vehicle market and the progress we’ve made on clean energy as we prepare for opportunities to come in 2020. We’re not just thinking about the new EV models that are set to appear on the road, but also the states that are stepping up their leadership on clean energy and getting charged up for an electrified transportation future.
Nevada is at the top of the list when it comes to states with vast potential for electrification. Governor Sisolak recently signed an executive order directing state agencies to identify policies to reduce carbon pollution. The governor also indicated that the state will begin moving toward vehicle emission standards that will set the foundation for an economy that runs on clean energy and electric transportation. Meanwhile, the Nevada Public Utilities Commission just approved NV Energy’s plan for three new plants that will add almost 1,200 megawatts of solar energy and 590 megawatts of energy storage to Nevada’s electricity grid. As the PUC continues to review and approve such plans, they are ensuring that Nevada’s electric transportation is fueled by clean, renewable energy.
